Im Juli hat BBC-Chef-Onliner Pete Clifton einen „Blog Ban“ verkündet. Mit gutem Grund: „The site has called all manner of things blogs in recent months, even, briefly, this column. None of them have been blogs, and our publishing system does not currently have the tools to produce them properly. (…) So until our kit can produce a blog that behaves properly, I’ve banned us calling anything on the site a blog.“

Jetzt startet BBC-Politikchef Nick Robinson sein Newslog auf einer echten Blog-Plattform (nämlich TypePad von Six Apart) mit permanenten Links, Kommentarfunktion und RSS-Feed. Robinson kündigt mehr an: „The BBC is about to start a trial series of blogs, each of which will be built using the kind of software employed by millions of weblogs around the world. This is the first of that trial.“

Beim G8-Gipfel in Gleneagles gab es bereits ein TypePad-Weblog der Sendung Newsnight — allerdings hat sich die Redaktion dabei an den BBC-Regeln vorbeigemogelt, wie Newsnight-Korrespondent Paul Mason mit etwas Stolz zugibt.

Nachtrag: Übrigens hat die BBC auch gerade die internationale Version ihres Onlineangebots neu gestaltet.
